February: Celebrate Love, Culture & Kindness
- Black History Month (All Month): Explore red, black, green, and gold palettes to create
pottery that honors Black history and heritage. Think about painting historical figures like Martin
Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou, or patterns inspired by African art. You can also paint book
spines to celebrate your favorite literary figures, honoring the written works that have shaped
history and culture. - Lunar New Year (Ends Feb. 15): Welcome the Year of the Snake with festive designs —
incorporate red, gold, and lucky symbols into your pottery. From intricate dragon patterns to
lantern designs and floral motifs, celebrate prosperity, happiness, and good fortune with vibrant,
culturally significant pottery pieces. - Valentine’s & Galentine’s (Feb. 10–14): Create heart-shaped dishes, mugs, or love-themed
ring holders — perfect for a meaningful gift, self-care treat, fun date, or a memorable gals’ night
out. Add sweet messages, romantic icons, or even playful designs to spread love to your
favorite people (or yourself!). - Random Acts of Kindness Week (Feb. 14–20): Paint a thoughtful kindness mug or plate with
uplifting messages to gift to a friend or stranger. Think warm, heartwarming designs, like “You’re
Loved” or “Be the Change,” that bring a smile to anyone’s day and encourage a little more
kindness in the world.
March: Texas Pride, Mardi Gras & Spring Celebrations
- Texas Independence Day (March 2): Show your Texas pride with bluebonnet designs,
cowboy boots, or a “Lone Star” theme on your pottery. Of course, Clay Cafe has plenty of
Texas-shaped items – and Texas Tech inspired items – for you to personalize. - Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras (March 4): Jazz up your pieces with purple, green, and gold —
think festive patterns, carnival-inspired masks, beads, or fleur-de-lis designs. Whether you’re
creating Mardi Gras masks, beaded designs, or even playful jester faces, embrace the bold and
bright energy of this iconic celebration. - Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (March 8) &: Celebrate women’s
achievements by painting inspiring quotes, feminist icons, or book-spine designs honoring your
favorite female authors. Think of Rosie the Riveter, Maya Angelou’s empowering words,
portraits of historical figures like Frida Kahlo, or artistic representations of modern female
leaders and activists. You can also explore playful designs with creative, abstract interpretations
of female anatomy — a popular and empowering theme that celebrates femininity and strength. - Pi Day (March 14): Celebrate the mathematical wonder of Pi with fun, math-themed pottery
designs or dessert-inspired plates. Whether it’s pi symbols, circular patterns, or delicious pie
designs, let your creativity take a “slice” of the action and make something sweet to celebrate
this nerdy holiday. - Spring Break (March 17–21): Enjoy kid-friendly projects like painting rainbows, flowers, or
nature-inspired designs with your little ones. There’s also a variety of creative options like fun
piggy banks, playful dinosaurs, and the ever-popular poop emoji, along with other fun creatures
and whimsical shapes to make for a memorable, creative experience for everyone. - St. Patrick’s Day (March 17): Paint your luck into the season with four-leaf clovers, lucky
charms or gold-accented mugs. Add a tea set for extra charm! Play with green, gold, and all
things lucky to celebrate the magic of St. Patrick’s Day. - First Day of Spring (March 20): Celebrate the season of renewal with pastel tea sets, floral
mugs, and garden-inspired designs to welcome spring. Create soft, fresh pieces with delicate
floral motifs, vibrant greens, and refreshing springtime colors to usher in the new season.
April: Creativity, Renewal & Giving Back - April Fool’s Day (April 1): Let your sense of humor shine by designing playful, quirky pottery.
Think outside the box with fun illusions — like a cup that looks like it’s spilled, a plate with a
mischievous face, or a mug that appears to be melting. Experiment with optical illusions and
unexpected shapes for a laugh-out-loud addition to your collection. - Easter & Spring Fling (April 14–20): Celebrate the renewal of spring with soft pastel hues
and festive Easter motifs. Paint playful bunnies, colorful blooms, or nature-inspired pieces like
delicate butterfly dishes and floral teapots. Let the season of rebirth inspire your creativity, from
whimsical designs to elegant pieces. Plus, it’s a fun way to practice your egg-decorating skills in
time to crack the confetti versions on your loved ones’ heads! - Earth Day (April 22): Decorate earth-toned mugs and plates to evoke the calming hues of
nature. Draw inspiration from the outdoors with designs featuring trees, mountains, or ocean
waves to show your love for the planet. Use shades of green, brown, and blue to create pieces
that celebrate nature and remind us to protect the earth. - Mother’s Day Gift Workshop (Late April): Create a thoughtful, personalized gift that shows
your love and appreciation. Paint floral vases, charming jewelry dishes, or heartfelt handprint
plates that make for beautiful keepsakes. Whether you’re honoring mom, a mother figure, or
someone who’s meant the world to you, these handcrafted treasures are the perfect way to say
“I love you.”
